What makes Black Inc. different to other publishers?
I think being small and completely independent gives us the
freedom and flexibility to publish really current and exciting titles. Titles
that some bigger publishers may find too risky or not easily marketable.
What kind of manuscripts are you looking for?
We publish high-quality non-fiction, including history,
current affairs, biography and memoir, and also fiction.
If someone was to read two books on your list, what
should they be?
Unpolished Gem by
Alice Pung and 1835 by James
Boyce.
What are you excited about for 2013?
We have some wonderful Quarterly Essays coming up including
– Not Dead Yet by Mark Latham, and our
50th issue by Anna Goldsworthy coming out in June. Other highlights are Welcome
to Your New Life by Anna Goldsworthy
(April), Night Games by Anna
Krien (May) and later in the year, Twiggy: the High-Stakes Life of
Andrew Forrest by Andrew Burrell
(November).
