Small press pop quiz - Jaffa Books

What makes Jaffa Books different to other publishers?
At Jaffa Books we care about the author and the reader. All writers signed on to Jaffa Books get a 50% royalty rate off each ebook sold. This acts as a great incentive for unpublished writers to come to us, as if their book is successful, and we certainly hope it will be, the author stands to earn more than they would with the traditional royalty rates at most other publishers.

For the reader, we offer thrilling and interesting reads that you won't find anywhere else at affordable prices. The majority of our writers were previously unpublished, so it is a great place for a reader to come along and find a new favourite author and help develop their career in the field.

What kind of manuscripts are you looking for?
Anything that's good. I want to be excited when reading through the new submissions. Get something to stand out and I'll want to publish it. I adore reading science fiction and fantasy. Anything in these genres would be much appreciated, but I will accept anything that's good enough no matter what genre it comes from.

If someone was to read two books on your list, what should they be?
I'll avoid the cop out of saying all of them (though you should read all of them). If I had to pick out the stand-out two, I would suggest Delirium and Sydney's SongDelirium is a psychological thriller novel from Grant Robinson, in which a horror novelist suffers delusions when he believes his wife is having an affair with his psychologist. It is a frightfully good read, and one that you just can't put down. Sydney's Song is a romance with elements of humour and heartbreak. I adored this book from the moment I first read it in my submissions list, and I know everyone else will pick it up and love it. Ia Uaro is a brilliant author, and has captured a wonderful slice of life with this book.

What are you excited about for 2014?
2014 is going to be a big year for Jaffa Books. I already have a novel and poetry collection ready for release, with the Legendary short story anthology following shortly afterwards. Then there is the big event coming in the middle of the year: Jaffa Books will be expanding beyond the online medium. Print books will be arriving for release around May/June, and that promises to be an exciting time.
